Support for under-13 cricket in Jersey school
As sponsors of SCF cricket club, Fairbairn Private Bank thought
it was important to support the development of its under-13 team,
who are trained at Haute Vallee School. The bank purchased
two new mats for the school team to be able to practice indoors and
Fairbairn SCF bought the creels for the mats to be stored
on. The link between SCF and Haute Vallee School
has been fostered as part of the Jersey Cricket Board's "Club &
School Link Programme".
A recent report by the Institute of Youth Sport (IYS) found that
UK pupils being taught cricket in The Cricket Foundation's Chance
to Shine initiative displayed increased fitness levels, greater
social skills and improved sportsmanlike behaviour. David
Stearn, Fairbairn Private Bank's head of business development,
commented, "All these skills are vital in both the business world
and to progress to be part of a successful cricket squad like
Fairbairn SCF."
David presented the children with the equipment and had a few
attempts at the wicket whilst there. Ron Halliwell, secretary
of Fairbairn SCF, who went along to check on the progress of the
team, commented, "We really value the school offering cricket
coaching as it means that young talent can be nurtured sooner and
the island's cricket teams have fresh talent constantly coming
through the ranks."
Jersey Cricket Board Development Coach, Peter Gough, added, "The
Club & School Link plays a key role in our development
programme in providing competitive cricket and training for all
young players on the island. Thanks to the hard work of Ron and
SCF, the Haute Vallee staff and the generous support of Fairbairn
Private Bank. With this support the young players have a
great opportunity to improve their skills and enjoy playing cricket
in Jersey."
