Profile on… Martin Rigg, Investment Administration Executive
|
Q: Tell us a little about your background
A: My career in the finance industry started in 1990 with Scottish
Provident in Kendal, where I built up my experience in investment
administration, before spending three years working on corporate
pensions. In 1996, I moved to the Isle of Man to take on a new role
within the investment administration department of Scottish
Provident International, progressing to the role of deputy head of
investments. When they merged with Scottish Life International to
form Royal London 360, I felt it was time to move on and the
reputation of Fairbairn Private Bank on the island was a strong
pull. It was in June 2009 that I started as investment
administration executive, managing the dealing team (a team of
four).

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Fairbairn
Private Bank?
A: The culture of the bank is well suited to me and to find that
kind of natural fit is rare, especially with the big organisations
around today. Fairbairn is small but it works. Everyone is willing
to help each other to get the job done. It's a team effort and
everyone is on board with that.
Q: What are your goals / aims in the short
term?
A: The dealing area is currently seeing a number of changes to the
way deals are processed, which is the result of our ongoing wider
'Straight Through Process' project to deliver a more automated
dealing process from receipt of instruction, through placement, to
delivery of the contract note and settlement. My short term goal is
therefore to achieve successful implementation, whilst ensuring the
team continues to provide an exceptional quality of service to all
those we deal with.
Q: Your top tip?
A: Treat others as you would want to be treated yourself.
Career: 1990 to 2009 - Scottish
Provident, Kendal and Isle of Man; 2009 to present - Fairbairn
Private Bank, Isle of Man
Likes: Playing snooker, skiing (although more
"falling", given I'm only in my second season!), motorbikes (having
moved to the island, it wasn't too long before I was itching to get
a bike and pass my test). I've also recently bought my first DSLR
camera, so I'm just learning the fundamentals of photography, much
to my family's annoyance!
Dislikes: Heights (which was confirmed at a recent
coasteering event!) and taking part in these Q&As!
Dream job: When I left school I wanted to become a
pilot in the RAF but I was told I was too tall! And as for now, I'm
in my dream job of course!
If you weren't here now, what would you be
doing?
I'd be touring the UK with the family in a Volkswagen camper
van!
