Profile on... Cameron Walker, Senior Private Banker
 |
Q: Tell us a little about your background
A: When my professional football ambitions were
stalled at an early age, I sought employment in the finance
industry, joining London & Manchester Assurance as a pension
administrator in 1990. Maggie Thatcher had fuelled demand for
private pensions and I joined a busy unit servicing a nationwide
sales force. Family reasons encouraged my move to Jersey and lead
to my first role in banking within the client service team at
Lloyds retail branch and from there, private banking became my goal
and I was lucky enough to gain a promotion to the offshore private
banking team where I learnt my trade, before moving to SG Hambros
in 1998.

I later followed my boss from SG Hambros to join, what is now
known as, Fairbairn Private Bank where I have spent eight very
happy years and look forward to many more.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Fairbairn
Private Bank?
A: The senior management truly live the culture and encourage
everyone else to do the same. There is a clear mission statement
within the business and staff fully engage with it from day one,
creating a fabulous working environment and happy clients!
Q: What are your goals / aims in the short term?
A: My top priority, now and always, is to ensure our
clients have the best possible experience and it is vital we employ
individuals in roles to best suit their skills to maintain the
highest standards. I have a part to play in both elements, with the
ultimate goal being continued growth of our business.
Q: Is there anything your clients are particularly
interested in at the moment?
A: More and more clients are recognising the need to plan
adequately for retirement. Many companies have closed final salary
plans in favour of defined contribution schemes, placing more
emphasis on the individual to ensure their pension can fund the
desired lifestyle at retirement. We are seeing a growing number of
clients taking up the challenge and setting up their own SIPPS, which offer
the freedom to choose and manage investments with great
flexibility. We encourage our clients to focus on their long term
objectives and create a wealth plan to include the management of
pension provision. Fairbairn Private Bank is able to provide a
platform from which a SIPP can be effectively managed, either
directly by the individual or through the employment of our
discretionary investment management service.
