Added protection with Verified by Visa
On 13 October 2008 we will be launching the
Verified by Visa facility on all Fairbairn Private Bank gold status
Visa cards. This facility, in conjunction with Visa International,
offers extra security and confidence when shopping online with your
gold status Visa card.
After the above date, you must activate your
gold status Visa card with the Verified by Visa facility in order
to shop online with merchants that subscribe to this facility. For
your security, it will not be possible to bypass the Verified by
Visa activation process. It will be necessary to activate your gold
status Visa card with the Verified by Visa facility in order to
complete your purchase.
The activation process is all done online
and you will need to use your Verified by Visa allocated password,
as supplied in our recent correspondence to all of our cardholders.
Full on-screen instructions are provided and registration is
completed in two easy steps. Once activated, you will then be asked
for your password for all future purchases from a Verified by Visa
online merchant.
The Verified by Visa facility is just one
more initiative in our ongoing fight to stamp out financial fraud.
When you register for this free service you
get:
- another level of security to your online
transactions – by using a password you can use your card
online more securely
- safer internet shopping - the more cardholders
that register, the more retailers will sign up to Verified by Visa,
making internet shopping safer for everyone
- better choice - if you register your card you
will be able to use it to shop online at all retailers who
have signed up for Verified by Visa.
The facility is a means of authenticating both
the cardholder and merchant to ensure you are both who you say you
are. It means that, when making a transaction, you would confirm
your identity using a password in the same way that today you
provide your PIN number when shopping in the high street. We, as
the issuing bank, authenticate you as the cardholder during the
sale and notify the merchant that the buyer is legitimate. This all
serves to increase consumer confidence as the online shopping
experience becomes a safer everyday occurrence.
