Trees for life

A TREE IS FOR LIFE NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS
Fairbairn Private Bank has recently donated 200 tree saplings to
the Jersey Trees for Life Hedgerow Campaign. The trees will be used
to support the Jersey Trees for Life campaign in 2010 and a team of
volunteers from the bank plan to work alongside the charity to
clear the ground and plant the saplings early in the new year.
Louise Hicklin from Fairbairn Private Bank commented, “We are
always looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint and sourcing
all our stationery and office items through the ‘Plant a Tree
Scheme’ has enabled us to do something for the local community and
the environment. We are looking forward to getting involved in the
planting of our trees early next year.”
The trees have been earned through the ‘Plant a Tree Scheme’
initiated by The Sigma Group, a locally based business solutions
and stationery company. The idea behind the scheme is to
award customers sales points and then donate one tree for every 100
points collected. During the course of 2009, Fairbairn Private Bank
accumulated 16,400 points through its stationery orders and this
qualified for 164 trees. The Sigma Group then kindly donated
another 36 saplings to give a grand total of 200 trees.
Louise Hicklin and Ben Stott from Fairbairn Private Bank and
Stuart Shepherd from The Sigma Group presented the tree saplings to
Conrad Evans of Jersey Trees for Life. The presentation was made at
Warwick Farm where the tree saplings for the Hedgerow Campaign were
sourced.
The Jersey Hedgerow Campaign for the 2009/2010 planting season
is currently well underway. This year the planting is based around
St Clement and aimed at creating habitat for the Island’s hedgehog
population.
