FAIRBAIRN PRIVATE BANK STAFF ELECT
FOUR NEW CHARITIES
The staff at Fairbairn Private Bank in the
Isle of Man and Jersey have voted in four new charities for the
coming year. The bank encourages community involvement and staff
are invited to elect their favourite charity for which funds will
be raised during the next twelve months.
The Isle of Man staff voted for local Isle
of Man charities; Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association and Isle of
Man Hospice Care. The Jersey staff voted for local Jersey charity;
the Jersey Friends of the Anthony Nolan Trust and the staff of both
offices voted for the international charity; BallaAfrica.
Comments Janet Taylor, senior marketing
executive at the bank: “The staff have once again voted for
charities that are close to their hearts and there are already some
great fundraising events planned. The generosity of everyone at the
bank has been most impressive, raising £8,000 for charity over the
last two years. I’m sure this will remain the case in the year
ahead with these very worthy causes to motivate us.”
The Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association is
involved in all areas of cancer support for all types of cancer.
Most of the money raised is kept on-island with the only money
going off-island towards cancer research. The charity promotes
healthy living and works closely with schools to help educate
children on health and fitness, as well as providing fitness
equipment.
Isle of Man Hospice Care provides free care
and support for anyone affected by life-threatening illness such as
cancer. The Hospice cares for both young and old alike,
thanks to the recent addition of Rebecca House for children with
life-limiting illnesses.
The Anthony Nolan Trust exists to facilitate
a transplant for any leukaemia patient in the world in need of bone
marrow or appropriate cells. The Trust saves lives by recruiting
donors to their national bone marrow register. The aim of the
Jersey Friends of the Anthony Nolan Trust is to increase public
awareness of the need for more bone marrow and stem cell donors and
to raise funds to support this publicity whilst running donor
clinics when necessary.
BallaAfrica is a charity based at
Ballakermeen High School in the Isle of Man and is run by one of
the teachers to try and provide support to the huge numbers of
orphaned AIDS children in South Africa. A community centre is
planned for the children and just £25,000 remains to reach the
targeted £75,000 to build the centre. As well as helping the
orphans, the charity also raises awareness of these issues at the
school.
