JERSEY TOUR FOR FAIRBAIRN CRICKET TEAMS
Fairbairn Crosby Cricket Club has just
returned from a short pre-season tour to Jersey, where they played
a couple of matches against the local Fairbairn SCF club. The two
teams, based in the Isle of Man and Jersey, are both sponsored by
Fairbairn Private Bank as part of an initiative to support sport on
the islands.
The teams were very lucky with the weather and
the sun shone for the duration of the match. Fairbairn Crosby
won the toss and decided to field first. On a green pitch, the
scoring rate was quite slow to start with but Fairbairn SCF was
eventually all out for a respectable 233 runs.
Fairbairn Crosby started their innings well,
scoring 73 for 2, but then collapsed quite dramatically, losing the
remaining 8 wickets for only 16 runs – a disappointing end to their
innings.
The final result was a win for Fairbairn SCF
by 146 runs and Ben Stott, Fairbairn Private Bank, presented the
Challenge Cup to the winning captain, Tony Carlyon.
The Isle of Man club was entertained for the
weekend by Fairbairn SCF and both clubs are grateful to their
mutual sponsor for providing a trophy for the winning team. A
strong Fairbairn SCF team won the trophy on this occasion but the
clubs are hoping for a return fixture in the Isle of Man next
year.
