Sponsor of London Stock Exchange Cricket Club in City Twenty20 competition
Fairbairn Private Bank, proud sponsors of the London Stock
Exchange Cricket Club (SECC), joined the SECC for the fifth annual
City Twenty20 competition on 1st September 2011. Colin
Campbell, Private Banker in Fairbairn Private Bank's London office,
was there.
This year, the cricket clubs of the Stock Exchange, Lloyd's of
London and The Baltic Exchange, were competing for the "Giraffe
Trophy" in a tournament consisting of a round robin Twenty20
format.
For the first time, the matches would take place at the Wormsley
cricket ground, created by the late Sir Paul Getty on the family's
magnificent Buckinghamshire estate, and widely considered to be the
prettiest cricket venue in England.
First match: The Baltic Exchange CC vs Stock Exchange
CC
On a warm and sunny summer day and a fine batting track, The
Baltic Exchange, in a vibrant batting display, set the SECC a fine
total of 167 for nine wickets from their twenty overs.
In reply, the SECC, in Fairbairn Private Bank liveried whites,
made a very positive start, however were pegged back later in their
innings, with it going down to the final ball. The game ended
in a tie; however, with the SECC losing fewer wickets - seven -
they were declared the winners.

Second match: The Baltic Exchange CC vs Lloyd's
CC
Again batting first, The Baltic Exchange opened positively,
scoring at a rate of over ten per over in the early overs.
Thanks to some excellent disciplined bowling from the Lloyd's
attack in the final four overs, they were limited to a total of
174.
Lloyd's CC's response started in a more circumspect manner,
however ramped up their scoring rate as their innings progressed,
hitting the winning runs with four deliveries to spare.
Third match: Stock Exchange CC vs Lloyd's
CC
The SECC batted first, and with the temperature falling and
cloud cover descending, runs became harder to come by. In an
evenly-matched innings, the Stock Exchange set Lloyd's a total of
155.
Lloyd's set about their reply with zeal and were well ahead of
the required run rate, scoring 93 runs after eleven overs.
Despite some excellent tight bowling in later overs, reducing
the scoring rate, the SECC were unable to stop Lloyd's winning the
game by six wickets.
Having won both their games, Lloyd's Cricket Club won the City
Twenty20 contest and were presented with the Giraffe Trophy.
There was some good news for the SECC as Tim Harrison was chosen
as man of the match in the Stock Exchange's first game, for his
breezy 64 with the bat and excellent bowling figures of four
wickets for sixteen runs.
Overall, it was a splendid day, enjoying the sight of high
quality cricket played in the right spirit, excellent food and
company, set amidst the magnificent backdrop of the Wormsley estate
and the English summer at its best.
Cricket, and indeed the spirit of fair play, were the ultimate
winners today.
