Pure Planet Racing makes a very green splash onto the multisport scene
In January 2011, the existing Fairbairn Private Bank
Multisport Team was revamped into a new and expanded team known as
Pure Planet Racing, with both Fairbairn Private Bank and BoE
Private Clients as joint sponsors. Pure Planet Racing has a unique
spin in the sporting world as they aim to be the first carbon
neutral racing team in the world. The team consists of both
elite-level athletes as well as guest celebrity athletes. Pure
Planet Racing has been spearheading a drive to make all athletes
respect the environment in which they race and train by thinking a
little greener. This can include small changes such as carpooling
to events and not using bottled water. Pure Planet Racing and their
sponsors are also getting involved in urban green projects, in
addition to supporting existing community sport
initiatives.
Last weekend the team made a big statement as six
members took on the largest mountainbike stage race in the country,
the three-day Subaru Sani2c, which is sponsored by BoE Private
Clients. This event showcases the beauty of South Africa as it
traverses valleys and mountains, with the occasional wild animal to
keep it interesting. The team will continue to race both locally
and internationally this year as they spread the Pure Planet
message. You can follow them at www.pureplanetracing.com
and on Twitter @teampureplanet.
